Can it be that Valentine’s Day is this week?  Wasn’t it just New Years…Thanksgiving for that matter??  Where does the time go?

In addition to Valentine’s Day, February is a month of many birthdays in our house–today happens to be my younger son’s 12th birthday!–so there is much opportunity for special treats.  I thought it would be fitting to share a few of our favorites, which are perfect to serve the ones you love this time of year. Happily, there are some favorite treats that we don’t have to feel guilty about.  For example, the Strawberries and Cream Baked Oatmeal is my younger son’s favorite variety of baked oatmeal, and it is a most wholesome way to start the day.  I love that I can make it the day before and simply slice and serve for breakfast.

If there is a favorite recipe, or even a crafty Valentine idea, that your family loves, please feel free to share it.  You are always welcome to comment in the area below.  I also love it when people post photos on my Facebook page or email them to me directly.  I am definitely not the only one with delicious recipes, so always feel welcome to share your own.  A few months ago, a reader shared her recipe for Slow Cooker Ginger Curry Lentil Soup.  I made this easy and delicious slow cooker meal — to rave reviews — and The Huffington Post actually picked it up!  How cool is that?  So, you just never know where your favorite recipe might end up. (And I always give proper credit, of course!)

I will add more ideas as I make them — or as Fountain Avenue Kitchen friends share them. So, feel free to check back.  Most importantly, have a very happy Valentine’s Day with your loved ones this week.  For the record, my very favorite Valentine’s Days are the ones when I have received a handmade card from my kids and the occasional Valentine’s Day when my husband has cooked dinner!  What about you?

By the way, if you take the stems off the strawberries and dip the stem end in chocolate, they end up looking more like a heart!
