Use this spice blend for any recipe calling for pumpkin pie spice. Beyond muffins, quick breads, and pies, try the flavorful mix sprinkled on oatmeal, applesauce, lattes – even roasted winter squash.Servings: 3+ tablespoons (recipe may be scaled as needed)
1½teaspoons(½ tablespoon) ground nutmeg (see notes)
1½teaspoons(½ tablespoon) ground ginger
1teaspoonground allspice
Instructions
In a small bowl, combine all ingredients and mix well.
Store in air tight container and use wherever pumpkin pie spice is called for.
Notes
If possible, freshly grating the nutmeg will provide an extra flavor boost. And while this recipe is a great way to "clean out" your spice cabinet, fresh spices will yield the most flavor.
