Whole Grain-Flax Deep Dish Pizza Crust


Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon honey
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup ground flax seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, mix together water and yeast. Stir to dissolve yeast, then add oil and honey.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flours, flax, salt and pepper. Make a well in the middle of the flour mixture. Pour wet ingredients in and stir to combine. Cover and set in a warm place for one hour.
  3. Spread the dough over the bottom and up the sides of a greased 12-inch cast iron skillet. Top with desired ingredients and bake. For Sausage, Mushroom and Fontina Pizza, I bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes and allow pizza to stand 5-10 minutes before serving.
