Homemade Cajun Seasoning
Yield: ~ ⅔ cup
Bring traditional Cajun flavor to your kitchen with a simple blend of spices you likely have on hand. Use to add a savory kick to chicken, fish, shrimp, pork, eggs, rice and beans, popcorn, and more.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons paprika (I use 2T sweet, 1T smoked)
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper (use 1T for more heat)
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly combine all the ingredients in a small bowl.
  2. Store in a jar or airtight container for up to 1 year.

Notes

To use a spice rub on grilled meats like chicken, fish, shrimp, and pork, evenly sprinkle the meat with 1 tablespoon of the spice mix per pound of meat and then drizzle with 1 tablespoon olive or avocado oil for every pound of meat.Toss to evenly distribute. If you have time, marinate in the refrigerator for up to 1 hour for seafood and up to all day for chicken and pork. Though marinating will deepen the flavor, the rub will still add lots of flavor if the meat is cooked right away.
