Homemade Cold Remedy
Yield: approximately 1/3 cup
Four basic pantry items are all you need for this inexpensive, doctor-approved option to over the counter cold medicines.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons honey*
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (I use Bragg’s)
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper**
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger

Directions

  1. Place all of the ingredients in a small jar and shake or stir to combine. Keep at room temperature for several days or refrigerate for longer storage. Shake well or stir before using. The spices will incorporate without dissolving into the liquid, and the consistency will be like a thin syrup.

Take 1 tablespoon as needed (I like morning, noon, and night). Double or triple the recipe as needed.

Notes

*Honey should NEVER be given in any form to children under the age of one year, due to the risk of infant botulism.

**For those who are sensitive to spicy foods, you may wish to start with 1/8 teaspoon cayenne or simply omit.
