Vanilla Caramel Sauce
If available, try using vanilla bean paste and sea salt in this recipe. These ingredients will heighten the flavor, although the caramel sauce will be delicious regardless!
1 cup (8 ounces) brown sugar
1/2 cup half and half
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt (if substituting regular salt, use 1/4 teaspoon)
2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste (may use pure vanilla extract)
Combine sugar, half and half, butter, and salt in a saucepan, and place over medium-low heat.
Cook, stirring occasionally, for 6-8 minutes or until all the sugar is dissolved.
Add the vanilla and cook another minute.
Remove from heat and allow sauce to cool.
Transfer to a jar and store in the refrigerator. Gently reheat before serving.
