Vanilla Caramel Sauce
If available, try using vanilla bean paste and sea salt in this recipe. These ingredients will heighten the flavor, although the caramel sauce will be delicious regardless!

Yields

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (8 ounces) brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup half and half
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt (if substituting regular salt, use 1/4 teaspoon)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste (may use pure vanilla extract)

Steps

  1. Combine sugar, half and half, butter, and salt in a saucepan, and place over medium-low heat.
  2. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 6-8 minutes or until all the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add the vanilla and cook another minute.
  4. Remove from heat and allow sauce to cool.
  5. Transfer to a jar and store in the refrigerator. Gently reheat before serving.
